Investment in Building Information Modelling (BIM)

Many will no doubt be unfamiliar with some of the new ‘buzz words’ and acronyms used in the Civil and Structural Engineering community. Phrases like Integrated Project Delivery, Geographic Information System and Building Information Modeling (BIM) are all intimidating phrases when heard for the first time.

The latter, which comprises a augmentation of the three primary spatial dimensions with both time and material properties is being pushed strongly by the UK government who in June 2011 published their BIM strategy. This required that all government funded projects by 2016 be implemented using collaborative 3D BIM (with all project information being electronic).

In view of the above Atkinson Peck has invested heavily in Building Information Modelling (BIM) technologies, many of which can be dynamically linked. These software components which include, Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite, Micro Drainage WinDes, Autodesk Revit Structure and Masterseries Building Design Suite; are explained in more detail on our dedicated Services page.
